Flood of 1913

On March 25th 1913 Shelby, Ohio suffered a major flood as did many other areas of Ohio. The river crested at three foot over Main Street for nearly 12 hours before receding. There was much damage to property and bridges and culverts were washed out. The flood caused significant damage to both the railway bridges and abutments causing railroad traffic to stop for days. Due to lack of electrical power from the light plant the phone service was down for the first time since it started 12 years earlier.
